Our Story
Built on Staten Island, for Staten Island
Mr Fix was started by John William, a technician who got his start the way most good ones do: taking apart everything he could get his hands on and figuring out how it worked. After seven years repairing appliances for larger outfits across New York City, John kept hearing the same complaint from Staten Island customers, that nobody local seemed to actually answer the phone, show up on time, or tell you the truth about what something cost to fix. In 1998, he opened Mr Fix to change that, one refrigerator, freezer, and ice maker at a time.
What started as a one-technician operation working out of a van has grown into a full team covering every corner of the island, from the pre-war walk-ups near the Staten Island Ferry terminal in St. George to the sprawling homes up on Todt Hill to the flood-prone basements along the South Shore in Tottenville and Great Kills. The neighborhoods changed. The promise didn't.
We're still a locally owned, family-run business, not a national franchise or a call center that dispatches whoever's available. We're licensed by the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (License #2144962-DCWP), and every technician on our team is trained to diagnose off the appliance's actual data plate instead of guessing based on the brand name. That one habit is responsible for more first-visit fixes than almost anything else we do.
"We tell people the truth about their appliance, even when a new sale would be more profitable for us. That's the only way we've stayed in business here for 28 years."
— John William, Founder
